Instructor Training Course

WHAT IS THE ITC ?
The SSI Instructor Training Course (ITC) is designed to make you a competent and confident diving instructor; able to conduct academic sessions efficiently, supplementing students' knowledge to maximize retention, and optimize time spent in the water, so you can effectively teach and evaluate your students' skills and abilities.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE ?
Until you are confident as an SSI Instructor, in general around 8-10 days depending on your previous experience and certification level.

WHAT ARE THE PREREQUESITES ?
To be eligible for an Instructor Training Course, you must be an SSI Dive Control Specialist or Assistant Instructor from another agency with at least 6 months since your first diving certification, 75 logged dives and have a current diving medical and training in CPR and first aid (within the last 12 months). To be certified as an SSI Open Water Instructor, you must have logged at least 100 dives. For candidates coming as Divemasters, you will be crossed over to SSI DiveCon the first two days at no additional cost.

The ITC Process

WHAT IS THE ITC PROCESS ?
1). The ITC is relaxed and fun, but for best results, requires some preparation which you can do by home study - this way you'll be well prepared before the course so you can enjoy yourself during the course.
2). The eight day Instructor Training Course consists of academic sessions, practice presentations, workshops and mini exams, all designed to help you develop your teaching ability in the classroom and water, as well as develop your business knowledge and skills.
We want you, not only to pass your IE, but to be comfortable and confident in your abilities to teach afterwards, that's why we will spend as much time with you as you need during your ITC to make sure you're fully prepared for what's ahead as an SSI Open Water Instructor.
3). To help you become a more well-rounded instructor, we'll spend ample time teaching you how to conduct the Stress & Rescue Program.
4). Once approved in a performance review, candidates can move on to the Evaluation. Candidates who are not yet ready to be evaluated may act as an Associate Instructor, practicing their teaching under supervision before going on to the Evaluation.
5). During your Instructor Evaluation (IE), you are given a final academic exam and your teaching presentations are graded by an independent Instructor Certifier.
Although SSI is big, you'll be pleased to know that our group sizes are small. There will be a maximum of 6 candidates on your IE, ensuring that your Instructor Certifier will not rush you and will be able to evaluate your abilities thoroughly.
6). The evaluation process ends with a final performance review where successful candidates are awarded the rating Open Water Instructor. If candidates are not ready to be OWI's, they may remain Associate Instructors, and continue to practice teaching until re-evaluation.
(optional 7.)The orientation is conducted at the SSI Dealership. It is designed to make you familiar with a particular Dealership, its policies, facilities and services, and may include in-depth sales training
